I wonder what the discovery of Black Gold will bring to Sri Lanka? Misery and death like in Africa or untold riches for all?

Oil exploration off Sri Lanka's east coast will commence late this year or in the first quarter of 2010. Cairn Sri Lanka, a subsidiary of Cairn India received a licence in October of 2008 by the Sri Lankan government to explore for Oil and Gas in the Mannar Basin.

Cairn Lanka hopes to begin acquiring seismic data offshore Sri Lanka late this year or early in 2010.

The government of Sri Lanka granted the company a license last October to explore for oil and gas in the Mannar basin. The block covers an area of around 3,000 sq km (1,158 sq mi), in water depths from 200-1,800 m (656-5,905 ft).

We launched an investigation about oil exploration in the Mannar Basin. There is a striking coincidence between the drilling operations and the military ones. Further on the international support receive by Sri Lanka could be shaped by this interest. For more, check this out at: srilankanquest.wordpress.com
