The ferry will take passengers from Colombo to Cochin in South India. The service will greatly reduce the cost of travel and increase tourism both ways.

The Minister made these comments at the 2nd SAARC Transport Ministers’ Summit held in Colombo today. The Minister added that the President has directed him to streamline transport between the two countries. Accordingly, the new ferry service will begin shortly. Measures have also been taken to recommence train services between the two countries. After the completion of reconstruction of railway track up to Thalaimannar pier this will be a reality.
