A criminal wanted by Interpol for terrorism and crimes against life to represent all Sri Lankan Tamils?
If I was Tamil I would say "No thank you!"
Shanmugam Kumaran Tharmalingam (a.k.a. Kumaran Pathmanathan, a.k.a. Selvarasa Pathmanathan, a.k.a. KP) has now been appointed the new leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE-Tamil Tigers).
The Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka have appointed a new leader, who has pledged to turn the insurgent group into a non-violent separatist movement. The "vision" of Pathmanathan's slain leader (Prabhakaran) was to segregate the Tamil race from the rest of the island. There is absolutely no other way to look at it.
The Tiger's executive committee said in a statement released on Tuesday that Selvarasa Pathmanathan, previously the movement's head of international relations, "will lead us into the next steps of our freedom struggle according to the vision of our esteemed leader."
Wanting a mono-ethnic - Tamil only - state as a solution for alleged discriminatory practices in language and education is stupid.
Tamils must put an end to this madness, and stop filling the pockets of these wanted criminals.
The power of the vote is what brought Obama into power. The vote brought Mandela into power, and violence perpetrated by his party put him in prison.
If Tamils want to help their people on the island they should think more rationally.
If you are of voting age, then make a difference. Save your donations and visit Sri Lanka. Consider registering to vote. Make your vote count.
If you want the best for your people in Sri Lanka stop falling prey to Tamil Tiger propaganda.
Don't let ridiculous allegations by the British press throw you off. Let common sense tell you that there is always two sides to the story. The Sri Lankan state is not your enemy and it's goal is not to persecute Tamils.
Sri Lanka is a democracy. The same administration may not be in power after the next election.
The Tamil Diaspora does not need criminals to lead them. They need to work with the Sri Lankan state to open avenues for more opportunities to assist fellow Tamils in Sri Lanka.
