Video: Into the Tamil Tiger's lair

NewsX is the first TV channel to access the Tamil Tigers' final stronghold of Puddukuruirippu (PDK). The crew, film the devastation caused to the PDK hospital. Although the Sri Lankan government claimed there was no structural damage to the PDK hospital, the NewsX crew captured footage of extensive damage to the hospital's structure.

This is the first time an independent film crew has been allowed into PDK. The area was off limits to non-military personnel.

Initially, the NewsX reporter states that Prabhakaran was killed on the 18th of May 2009, the Ministry of Defence in Sri Lanka had earlier revealed that Prabhakaran was killed on the morning of the 19th. Later, on the video Brigadier Ravipriya confirms that Prabhakaran was killed on Tuesday the 19th of May 2009.

The sophisticated weaponry recovered from the Tamil Tigers now raises the question on how a banned terrorist movement was able to purchase and transport thermobaric weapons and armoured tanks without the aid of Sri Lanka's allies, non- governmental organisations, and aid partners, who had unfettered access to Tamil Tiger controlled territory after the 2002 ceasefire agreement.

According to Mahinda Rajapaksa, the president of Sri Lanka, there were 3000 non-governmental organisations (humanitarian/aid groups, and charities) registered and operating in Sri Lanka. One such organisation was the TRO (Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation). The US treasury department eventually froze TRO's assets in the US and designated it as a terrorist support group.
